Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) hosted the first edition of the “Smart Stores Expo 2017” event, which took place 23-25 January 2017.

The Expo inaugural session succeeded in gathering the most powerful retailers and solution providers in the region under one roof to showcase the latest trends and technologies in the industry.

HE Mohamad Helal Al Muhairi, Director-general of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, toured the expo, accompanied by several key officials and industry leaders, where they were introduced to the latest technologies and advancements in the technology field. “Heading towards smart services constitutes one of the main components in the retail sector in the coming period” Al Muhairi said.

The national catering companies’ group took part in the expo, at a special and distinctive hall highlighting the company's potential and interest in the shopping developmental approach. As a mother company to several small companies, it was strongly present through its own companies, namely: "National Innovative General Maintenance (NIGM)" engineering solutions for projects and facilities’ management, "Business DNA" technology solutions, "Tamween" integrated supply solutions, "Aman" specialized in food safety and " Souq Planet" the first digital market in the Middle East. The group of companies has demonstrated its commitment to providing developed solutions in new methods and media and serve its customers optimally in all the diverse sectors of the company.

Mr Tarek Al Juwaini, Executive Director of the National Catering Company pointed out that during the expo the company presented the « Souq Planet » experience applied in the Souq Planet seven  branches in the UAE. Souq Planet is considered the first digital supermarket using smart solutions in the state through innovative smart techniques applied in its stores, which allow the consumer to shop and identify multiple brands of consumer goods through the scanner, or via mobile phone, and allow him to control the total budget for purchases, and guide him towards cuts on the same item, which will help him make good purchasing decisions.

“Later on, the Company will present advanced technologies to keep pace with the times, that include knowing the number of calories in each food commodity, providing health advice, and explaining how to prepare the product at home by application” Al Juwaini said, clarifying that: “Commodity prices will not rise in smart shops, and are even subject to drop, due to the low number of employees and subsequent operational cost”, estimating the industry growth rate of 20-25% on an annual basis.

Al Juwaini noted that the company started applying the smart stores’ concept in its Abu Dhabi stores, where consumers were given the opportunity to use scans in their purchases, and dispense with the cashier in some shopping cases as it will be available during the next six months.

“Smart Stores Expos 2017 constitutes an exemplary platform for investors to launch and showcase their latest innovations and products to buyers, manufacturers, retail experts and visitors from all around the world” Al Juwaini added.
